Doro Zinn

You are cordially invited to attend the 5th talk in the 5th series of ‘Beyond the Ring’ with Doro Zinn.

‘Beyond the Ring’ is an informal set of artists’ talks / presentations / performances by international artists based in Berlin and visiting artists passing through. ‘Beyond the Ring’ is there to provide the opportunity for people to meet and share their thoughts, ideas and work. If you’re interested in joining in, you will see that there is life Beyond the Ring in Berlin.

Doro Zinn

Identity, marginalization and belonging and the question of how to depict these are the topics of interest of Doro Zinn’s work.

‚Future Kids‘ (2016 – today) sets the focus on four individuals, photographed in Berlin. Through essayistic portrays, texts and archive photos Leila, Ilhan, Mohammed and Coco grant the viewer a look into their lives. As they search for answers to their identity, as children of muslim immigrants from Jordan, Turkey and Palestine, Doro Zinn comes along on the journey. Through an intimate relationship she reveals, in close cooperation with them four stories, that each have their own way of dealing with the past and the future, with places of (imagined) existence, with what defines home and with growing-up.
Together they deal with stereotypes, the concepts that society and the media carries towards immigrants and the following generations and try breaking them up in a very personal way.

Doro Zinn will also give an insight into her new work that she started during a residency in Glasgow this summer, ‚Save it for a rainy day‘ (working titel). It deals with the Gorbals, a mystified district in Glasgow, and tries to look behind the clichés through portrays and material collected from the residents.

Doro Zinn (1987,  Munich, Germany) graduated in Political Sciences and Psychology in Vienna. In 2017 she finished her photography studies at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie in Berlin. Her graduation project Future Kids has been exhibited on different occasions, such as f-stop Festival and Riga Photomoth and will be on view at Somos, Berlin in January 2019. Her work has been printed in different magazines and newspapers. In summer 2018 she did a residency in Glasgow in collaboration with Streetlevel Photoworks and Ostkreuz Verein für Fotografie.
