»I, Dismantled / Expired England«

In the framework of the »British Shorts« Film Festival Berlin, which took place at several venues in Berlin from Jan 11 – 17, 2018, a solo exhibition with photographs by British film maker and photographer Paul Daly is currently on view at Sputnik Kino until February 28, 2018.

Paul Daly’s film “Beckett” was part of the official festival program.
The exhibition presents works from two of Paul’s series, “I, Dismantled” and “Expired England”.

I, Dismantled:
An ethnographic study of a disappearing England as we experience a transitional period in history, as seen through the eyes of the last non-digital generation. Shot exclusively on Kodak 16mm and 120mm film and entering its final year of production, the project will culminate in a 15 minute documentary and photo series. Shot throughout the country I will document generations and places on the cusp of fading into nothing.

Expired England:
All photographs were shot on expired 35mm and 120mm film, focussing on individuals isolated throughout England’s main cities and coastal towns.

Special film screening in the context of the exhibition:
On 1st February 2018, 8:30 pm Paul Daly’s fictional short drama “Beckett” will be screened at Sputnik Kino. The artist will be present. The film has just had its world premiere at London Short Film Festival and its German premiere at »British Shorts« Film Festival Berlin.
It will be screened together with the feature documentary “Bunch of Kunst – A Film about Sleaford Mods” directed by British Shorts jury member Christine Franz (Arte/Tracks).

Paul Daly is a Director and Photographer focusing on works concerning British ethnography, masculinity and identity utilising analogue formats. His films blur the lines between documentary, drama and artist moving image with his aims being pieces that can be shown in both the cinema and gallery spaces. His work has been screened at Bury and Whitworth Art Galleries in Manchester and his portraiture was printed in Korean Creative Review. Upon completion of Beckett, Paul is now working to complete personal films “I, Dismantled” and “The Vault” alongside commissions in portraiture and documentary photography. He is currently writing his next short film “Nicholas”, centred on themes of family, the workplace and mortality.
