Description

Both, Andrea Grützner and Torsten Schumann navigate urban spaces.
Grützner focuses on the graphic structures that order our urban surroundings and uses her camera to deconstruct functional spaces.
Schumann discovers objects within public spaces, releases them from their previous contexts and gives them a life of their own.
Both bodies of work unsettle the viewer, presenting us with conundrums of reality.

Andrea Grützner’s images and installations form part of her work “das Eck” (published by Kerber Verlag in March 2016), which was developed during the course of her scholarship Koblenzer Stadtfotografin 2015.
The photographs by Torsten Schumann were taken from his work “For Tomorrow“.

Andrea Grützner was awarded her Master of Arts degree in photography by the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences in 2014. Her pictures have been featured at festivals and in solo and group exhibitions around the world. Andrea Grützner received both the PhotoVision Sponsorship Award for Photography and the Source Cord Prize in 2014, as well as the LEAD Award in 2015, for her work Erbgericht (Silver for Die Farben der Erinnerung, published in GEO 7/2014). She was a winner of the gute aussichten – junge deutsche fotografie prize in 2014/2015. Andrea Grützner was born in Pirna in 1984 and lives in Berlin.

In 2015, Torsten Schumann’s works were shown at the Festival Circulation(s) in Paris, at the exhibition Context 2015 by the Filter Photo Festival Gallery in Chicago, and at the International Print Exhibition by the Royal Photographic Society in London.
