Annabel Werbrouck & Elise Corvaglia
Elise Corvaglia approaches the visualization of intensity slowly in her work: the photographer, who lives in Namur, undertakes to reconstruct hallucinated memories as if she wants to approach the origin of an imagined reality. Her collages of snapshots, borrowed photographs and materials such as paper, threads, color become urgent proof of an intensified attention to the invisible – and a meditation on the fleeting details of life.
Equally penetrating, Annabel Werbrouck’s compositions offer an opportunity to trace past emotions, whereby her collages are composed of old family photos and anonymous photographs collected on the flea market, dating from the last century. The interaction of fragmented and unknown biographies allows a multitude of possible narratives to emerge. Above all the un-shown, superimposed, covert in her work inspires the imagination of the viewer in Magritte’s manner.
Annabel Werbrouck is Belgian. She has been working and living in Berlin for 6 years. After finishing her Geography Studies at ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles), she joined Agnès Varda School of Photography in order to study the photographic genre. At first, an important part of her work was focused on social photography. A striking event in her private life which happened 6 years ago changed her orientation towards more intimate & personal photographs.
Born in Charleroi in 1978 in an Italian family, Elise Corvaglia lives and works now in Namur. Autodidact, she love to explore, discover, express… Younger, she went to the painting academy but their rules didn’t fit to her. She is influenced by several movements: dadaism and surrealism of course, but also more classical trends. In fact, she is influenced by everything that moves, touches her: stories, books, movies, songs… all of them help her find her way.
