»Genius Loci«

The exhibition is presented as a beamer-projection @ Kohlfurter Straße 42 in Berlin-Kreuzberg, on Thursday & Fridays from 5 – 7 pm!
tunnel19, a recently established group of photographers from Berlin, will present its first large joint exhibition, »Genius Loci«. Genius Loci which means the “spirit of place,“ was an ancient Roman expression for a guardian spirit that defined a place’s idiosyncrasies, aura and atmosphere. Today, its definition is based less on mythology and more on the defining characteristics of historical and cultural layers, sometimes planned and thought through, but mostly chaotic and accidental.
The exhibition presents the uniqueness of private spaces, documents architecture and urban scenarios, as well as places of collective memory. Very different visual languages, concepts and modes of presentation encourage visitors to develop new insights and to recontextualize the familiar – confusion and reconsideration being desirable.
tunnel19 has its own studio space near Kottbusser Brücke. »Genius Loci« is a group show in the 250 m² project room at the Kunstquartier Bethanien. With works by:
Volker Hagemann, Andreas Henkel, Martin Kesting, Mireille van der Moga, Karin Pelzer, David Varnhold, Lars Wagner, and Sylvia Zirden.
