2 Slide Lectures & Book Launch & 2 Exhibitions
Big flocks, global markets, devaluation of handcrafts and the fallen prices of wool and meat have an impact on the shepherds way of earning a living today. Shepherd Vogel herds his flock of sheep and goats in the eastern German landscape conservation area near the river Oder. The sheep help to preserve rare flowers, plants and the landscape in general. Vogel’s life is shaped by the contrast between hard physical work, love of animals and nature. An hour’s drive away from the Capital Berlin, time goes slowly here.
Since autumn 2016, photographer Solveig Faust has been accompanying shepherd Wilfried Vogel during his work at Oderbruch.
The series will be exhibited at Kunstspeicher Friedersdorf from March 17 – June 24, 2018, with an opening reception on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11 am and a slide lecture by Solveig & Shepherd Vogel at 12 noon.
In her photography slideshow / lecture on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, 6 pm at Museum Europäischer Kulturen in Berlin Solveig will provide insight into her project and a shepherd’s life today.
Shortly before the slide lecture there will be a guided tour (in German) at 5:30 pm through the current exhibition „100 Prozent Wool“ (Nov 5, 2017 – June 23, 2019), which also contains a selection of Solveig’s photographs from this project.
A book of this series by Solveig Faust will be published in March 2018 by Edition Edisohn. ISBN: 978-3-930745-06-7, 96 pages.
