»Felix Schoeller Photo Award 2021«

German Peace Prize for Photography

The Felix Schoeller Photo Award is aimed at professional photographers and young photographers and has been awarded every two years since 2013 for work that shows a love of photography and the highest standards of image quality. Since 2019, the German Peace Prize for Photography has been awarded as part of the Felix Schoeller Photo Award in cooperation with the City of Peace Osnabrück.

In October 2021, the expert jury chose the winners of the current Felix Schoeller Photo Award in the categories “German Peace Prize for Photography” and “Best Young Talent” from over 600 works submitted from a total of 95 countries. The pictures can be seen from March 31 – June 12, 2022 in the Willy-Brandt-Haus.

The Nigerian photographer Emeke Obanor won the German Peace Prize for Photography with the work “Heroes”. The contemporary art and documentary photographer photographed girls kidnapped by the terrorist organization Boko Haram, who have managed to return to freedom. Although the girls were radicalized during their imprisonment, they have not lost the faith and courage to fight for their education and, with it, a better future.

Shirin Abedi, who was born in Tehran, can claim the title in the category “Best Young Talent” with her work “May I Have This Dance?”. Her poetic photo series shows the Iranian ballet scene fighting for self-determination, freedom and equality – in a country where, according to Iranian law, immorality and fornication are the result of sensual dance.

These and many other works by photographers from various countries can be seen as part of the exhibition in the Willy-Brandt-Haus and bring insights and snapshots from all over the world to Berlin.
