Daniela Friebel

Berlin is the capital of nightingales. In spring, the whistles and trills of the males fill the whole city, not just a few appear to amplify their song by singing close to bridges and they can even be heard next to a passing S-Bahn-train. Nightingales are faithful to their habitat and return to the same place every year.
For the 2017/18 Haus am Kleistpark work-grant Daniela Friebel set off on nocturnal forays to seek out nightingales in the district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg and then shot these same urban spaces during the day. The images, taken between Platz der Luftbrücke and Mauerweg, show places which otherwise receive little attention and reflect the concept of territory in multiple ways.
