Duo Exhibition

Michele Caliari & David Breun

Michele Caliari

What drives me as a photographer is a phenomenological approach. Of course, the fact that I come from a mountainous region also influences me. It is the confrontation with this landscape, to which I feel strongly attached. In my photography I relate to the scientific photography of the nineteenth century. At that time, the mountain was presented with a directness that shows its beauty, but also its naked brutality. The “beautiful mountains” are, at the same moment, an image of awe and fear. But, however personal that image is, what still remains, is the pureness of nature: «We like to be out in nature so much because it has no opinion about us». (F. Nietzsche, 1878)

David Breun

The photographer David Breun shows detailed large shots taken with a high-resolution digital camera. He does not want to depict the beauty of the landscape, but goes into detail, shows structures, colors and particulars. You can literally feel the elements and minerals that have shaped the face of our earth.

The often rough and barren landscape has a subtle play of colors and so this mostly inhumane nature always has a fascinating beauty inherent in it.

Furthermore, he is showing a video installation of the current project `Elements´ in the exhibition »TERRA«.

The Treptow-Ateliers

In the Treptow-Ateliers, 25 artists, filmmakers, designers, photographers and curators of various ages from over 15 European and non-European countries work around the clock. Over the past 10 years, a heterogeneous, constantly renewing community has emerged here, which promotes and supports each other precisely because of this strong diversity. This creative and cultural exchange, as well as networking with artists from other studio houses and cities, are an important part of the daily work of Berlin’s creative industry.

❤️ The nonprofit organization “Treptow Ateliers e.V.” unfortunately has to leave their current space by the end of the year, and due to the acute lack of (affordable) ateliers in Berlin, they haven’t found a new space. If you like, please support them with a donation or by becoming a supporting member in their association.
